Update your video card if it allows it or simply build a hackintosh via clover or tonymac. It is cheap, upgradable and the most powerful rig you'll ever own for 1/3 of a MacPro price!

I put a flashed R9 280X in my (EFI-hacked, Pike/Tiamo method, Yosemite 10.10.2 MacPro 2,1 (2007) and it works great on my 4K TV. Your mac has a 64-bit EFI so all you need is to buy a card on Newegg and either flash it yourself in a PC or send it to macvidcards.com

@AjeeB - the hackintosh community is a wealth of knowledge for apple products. In fact we already know that nvidia is supported by MACs and you can download the drivers on the link below, something apple does not make you aware. And to answer your question yes you can use nvidia cards to upgrade your 2008 MacPro. I personally use nvidia 680 and watch 4K content through HDMI but in 30Hz. You want to use DP at 60Hz? Check with the hackintosh community and you'll get an answer faster than apple itself =) http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-cuda-6.5.14-driver.html
