Apple is unlikely to include its rumored noise-cancelling headphones with the iPhone 7, according to a Barclays analyst note relayed by Business Insider.

It's widely been rumored that Apple plans to ditch the traditional headphones jack on its upcoming smartphone and instead allow users to connect headphones using the Lightning port. Additionally, the company is said to be working on a special noise-cancelling microphone system which will enable clearer phone calls and communication with Siri.

Analysts Blayne Curtis and Christopher Hemmelgarn say Apple will include a pair of Lightning headphones with the iPhone 7 but won't purchase Cirrus' noise-cancelling technology for in-box headphones until the iPhone 7S.

We still believe there is potential for AAPL to add ANC in the IP7S but believe AAPL is including just the digital headphone in the IP7 this year. We do believe there are aftermarket AAPL and Android opportunities this year, and we have included only 7.5M units in FY17 as those sales. Recent speculation surrounding the elimination of the headphone jack in the IP7 is consistent with this move as AAPL will need to provide a digital headset inbox but likely was not willing to spend the extra cost for the ANC functionality.

It's believed that Cirrus could supply Apple with a codec that would enable the use of the Lightning connector for headphones; as well as, a codec for active-noise-cancelling.

Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 7 this fall. Besides the lack of a headphones jack, the device is said to ditch some of its antenna bands. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
