Apple has accepted a quote from TPK Holdings to manufacturer the 3D Touch solution for its upcoming OLED iPhone. The quote is allegedly $18-22 USD, 150% higher than the cost of manufacturing the 3D Touch solution for current generation devices, reports the Economic Daily News via DigiTimes.

For 3D Touch solution used in existing iPhone series, TPK and fellow maker General Interface Solution (GIS) quote US$7-9 per smartphone. The solution directly bonds 3D Touch sensors on LTPS TFT-LCD display panels of the iPhone, but 3D Touch solution for OLED panels entails bonding of a glass cover on the front and back side of an OLED panel each to reinforce the fragile OLED panel.

According to the report, the overall increased processing cost is 50% higher for OLEDs than LEDs; however, the quote is 150% higher. Thus, TPK and GIS are expected to significantly benefit from Apple's orders. TPK has already passed certification.

Apple is expected to unveil its next generation iPhone in September. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
