Anti-Google Ads Plastered on Benches and Bus Stops [Photos]

Ads criticizing Google over firing James Damore have been plastered on benches and bus stops near the company's office in Venice. Notably, some of the ads are negatively comparing Google to Apple and Steve Jobs.

Startup investor Alex Rubalcava‏ spotted the banners earlier today:

"Someone is in Venice is not happy about Google's firing of that memo guy. These are all over Santa Monica and Venice."




The ads appear to take issue with Google's firing of James Damore, a now famous former employee that wrote a 10 page memo attributing the larger number of male employees at the company to cultural biases and genetic differences. The memo sparked a heated debate; however, the firing of Damore for voicing his thoughts on the issue may have ignited an even bigger one.



A Blind survey found that a majority of employees at Google, Uber, Yahoo, Airbnb, Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon thought that Damore should not have been fired. Apple employees were split nearly 51 to 49 in favor of his firing.




Damore has now filed a complaint against Alphabet under a provision of the National Labor Relations Act that protects workers' rights activists. Some legal experts say he has an 'above decent' chance of winning his case.

Today, New York Times columnist David Brooks called for Google CEO Sundar Pichai to resign over his handling of the situation accusing him of joining the mob against Damore.

The ads attacking Google accuse the company of hindering free thought/speech. For example, one reads, "Think Different. Apple > Get Hired. Google > Get Fired." Another reads "Apple - Think Different. Google - Not So Much".
