Break Media today announced that its editorial and video content now supports HTML5 video playback, to ensure compatibility with the Apple iPad and other devices. Break is one of the first online video publishers to integrate this technology. Earlier in 2010, Break announced a mobile initiative with the launch of its first iPhone application, and todays announcement falls in line with the companys strategy to make its content available on multiple platforms and devices.
Break Media has long been committed to making sure our content is available on as many devices and platforms as possible, so that users can access it conveniently and advertisers have more opportunities to engage with those users
Break Medias nine branded properties have been fully modified to run on devices like the iPad, and the video technology on those sites will retain most of the functionality of a Flash-based player but with a developer-friendly HTML and JavaScript implementation. Additionally, video ad units running on these properties can be transcoded into H.264 video playback, the standard format for the iPad and other HTML5 devices.
Break Media has long been committed to making sure our content is available on as many devices and platforms as possible, so that users can access it conveniently and advertisers have more opportunities to engage with those users, said Nick Wilson, CTO, Break Media. As a leader in the online video space, we will continue to innovate and lead industry technology trends to showcase the best quality video content available, whether that content is accessed on a computer, a mobile phone, or a tablet.
Advertisers will now have the opportunity to target advertising specifically to the iPad. The device will support all of Breaks current offerings of customizable, innovative ad formats, including the Interactive Engagement Suite (IES) of products. Break was recently listed alongside Hulu as a leader in offering innovative opportunities to advertisers such as customizable ad executions for the iPad in the Jack Myers report on top performing emerging sites and online ad networks.
