Apple has hired a top car-development manager from Lamborghini as it intensifies efforts to build a self-driving electric vehicle, reports Bloomberg.

The company hired Luigi Taraborrelli, a 20-year veteran of the Italian carmaker, to help lead the design of Apple’s future vehicle, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter isn’t public. Taraborrelli was most recently Lamborghini’s head of chassis and vehicle dynamics.

Taraborrelli will be one of the most senior managers on Apple's car team. According to his LinkedIn profile, he led the development of Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics for Lamborghini's car business. Responsibilities included Chassis Concept Development, Car Characteristic, Overall Vehicle Laptime Performances, Vehicle Dynamics Targets, Handling & Ride Characteristic, Suspension Elasto-Kinematics, Car Objectivation, Virtual Simulation, Software Coding and In-Vehicle Software Parametrization and Calibration Activities, Functional Safety, and Product Liability. Notably, in 2014 his responsibilities expanded to the electrification of chassis.

Apple has had some other notable hires of late, including Desi Ujkashevic, a 31 year veteran of Ford, and Ulrich Kranz co-founder of Canoo. There are reportedly hundreds of former engineers from Tesla, Rivian, Waymo, Volvo and Mercedes working on the vehicle, as well as, executives from Tesla, McLarne, Porsche, and Aston Martin.

Bloomberg expects Apple to introduce its car around 2025 with a design that features no steering wheel or pedals, using autonomous technology to carry passengers in a limousine-like interior.
