Apple is no longer expected to unveil an Apple Watch with a microLED display next year. According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the microLED model won't debut until the second half of 2025.
Originally, it was rumored that Apple could debut a new Apple Watch Ultra with a microLED display in 2024; however, it appears the company will not have the display ready in time. Apple is reportedly developing the technology for microLED in-house, potentially dealing a blow to both LG and Samsung.
It's likely that Apple will source outsource production of the display and it's said that LG is already establishing a small production line that will build backplanes for the upcoming smartwatch. The device will purportedly have a screen that measures about 2 inches. If Apple sees success with Apple Watch, it's expected to bring microLED display technology to larger screen devices, including the iPhone.
While not microLED, the Apple Watch Ultra does feature an impressive Always-On Retina LTPO OLED display with up to 2000 nits brightness. You can purchase the flagship model for $779.99 on Amazon.
