Apple is planning to introduce new AI features to the Mac Mail app in macOS Sequoia 15.4, according to a report from Mark Gurman.
In a newsletter to subscribers, Gurman states that the Mail app on Mac will soon leverage AI to prioritize messages and organize content.
There's another, more under-the-radar feature coming in April as well: The Mac will get the upgraded Mail app that uses AI to prioritize messages and sort content into different inboxes. Right now, iPad and iPhone users are able to tap into the feature — which is terrific — but Mac customers have been left behind. That changes with macOS 15.4, I'm told. For those not familiar with the feature: It sorts mail into a primary category, as well as ones for transactions, promotions, updates and all mail.
Gurman also notes that despite ongoing work on AI features, Apple is scaling back its Apple Intelligence notification summaries in iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 following complaints from news organizations about inaccurate summaries.
In the third beta of iOS 18.3, Apple has disabled summaries for many news-related apps and has distinguished AI-generated summaries from regular push notifications by displaying them in italics. Notably, we've also spotted a new 'Summarized by Apple Intelligence' label on certain notifications, which may be added to notification summaries in the future.
For iOS 18.4, Apple is planning to introduce its new Siri digital assistant which will be able to understand and take action with users' content in more apps. Additionally, it will be more natural, more contextually relevant, and more personal, with the ability to maintain context from one request to the next.
