Wal-Mart is dropping the price of Apple's 16GB iPhone 3GS to $97 beginning Tuesday, according to CNN.
It is not clear whether the move is just to clear remaining inventory ahead of a much rumored iPhone 4G announcement at WWDC 2010 or whether Apple plans to continue offering iPhone 3GS at $99 alongside the 4G.
"It is our commitment to always lead on price," Mehrdad Akbar, Wal-Mart's (WMT, Fortune 500) senior category director for wireless, in a prepared statement about the price change.
