A new leak suggests the standard iPhone 17 will get a screen size bump, growing to match the 6.3-inch display on the current iPhone 16 Pro. The report, from leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, says the base model is now targeted at 6.27 or 6.3 inches.
Is the 6.3-inch small flat screen becoming more popular in the market? I mentioned before that two more domestic brands will be adding 6.3-inch small flat screens in the next generation. That includes the iPhone 17, which will reportedly have a screen size of 6.27"/6.3". Samsung also seems to be launching a new 6.27"/6.3" display. Fans of small flat screens will soon have a lot of options
This would be a catch-up year for the standard iPhone. Apple already bumped the iPhone 16 Pro up to 6.3 inches last fall, leaving the base model at 6.1 inches. If the rumor is right, the iPhone 17 would grow to match, making the two models the same size again. The claim contradicts an earlier forecast from analyst Jeff Pu, who had the standard iPhone 17 remaining at 6.1 inches.
This screen size change is just one part of a bigger shake-up expected for the iPhone 17 series, which is set to launch in September 2025. Apple is also rumored to be dropping the Plus model in favor of an ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, which has appeared in hands-on videos of dummy units with a distinctive horizontal "runway strip" camera bump.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro models are set for their own redesign, with leaked dummy units showing a wide camera bar that stretches across the back. To support that high-end focus, other rumors point to a 12GB RAM upgrade across most of the lineup and an advanced vapor chamber cooling system to better manage heat.
