iPhone 17 Forecast: Higher Production, Higher Prices, New Specs Revealed

Apple is gearing up for a major iPhone 17 production push later this year, with a new investor note from GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu forecasting increased build numbers and a potential price hike to offset costs.

The forecast follows Apple's strong third-quarter earnings report and better-than-expected guidance for the fall quarter. Citing ongoing concerns about U.S. tariffs, Pu says he expects Apple to accelerate iPhone 17 production, raising his build plan to 90 million units for the second half of 2025. That's a jump from the 85 million units produced for the iPhone 16 lineup in the same period last year.

To help cover these costs, Pu suggests a price increase is likely. "Considering the tariff policy uncertainties and the likely assessment on production site in the U.S.," the note reads, "we don't rule out the possibility for Apple to raise the retail prices for iPhone 17 Series this time." This adds to a growing chorus of reports suggesting a price bump is on the way, with another analyst previously predicting a $50 increase for the Pro models.


Pu's note also offers a refreshed look at the iPhone 17 lineup's specs, corroborating several recent leaks. The standard iPhone 17 is now expected to get a larger 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 17 Air is slated for a 6.55-inch screen. For the Pro models, the report claims Apple will switch back to an aluminum casing after using titanium for the past two generations. All higher-end models are expected to get a jump to 12GB of RAM.
