A new post from leaker Ice Universe suggests Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max will be noticeably thicker than its main rival, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. The post, shared on Weibo, compares the alleged dimensions of the two future flagships ahead of Apple's special event tomorrow.
The image shows the iPhone 17 Pro Max measuring 8.725mm thick, compared to just 7.9mm for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This would make the next-generation Pro Max nearly a full millimeter thicker than its competitor and about 5% thicker than the current 8.25mm iPhone 16 Pro Max.
This isn't the first we've heard about an increased thickness for the high-end model. Hands-on videos with iPhone 17 dummy units have also shown a thickness of around 8.75mm. The extra space is thought to be necessary to accommodate a larger battery.
Other reports have suggested the iPhone 17 Pro Max may be the first to approach a 5000mAh capacity, with a recent leak from a regulatory filing pointing to a 5,088mAh battery for the eSIM-only configuration.
Apple is expected to unveil the full iPhone 17 lineup tomorrow at its 'Awe dropping' special event.
