Google is ending support for macOS 12 Monterey, setting Chrome 150 as the final version to run on the older operating system. The change means that users will soon need to upgrade their Macs to ensure they continue receiving security patches and new features.

Google Chrome to End Support for macOS 12 Monterey

According to an update on the Chrome status tracker, support will officially drop with the release of Chrome 151. Google cites the need to run on a supported operating system to maintain security, noting that macOS 12 is now outside Apple's active support window.

The browser will continue to function on Macs running Monterey, but it will stop updating. Google plans to display a warning infobar to alert users that their software is obsolete. For anyone attempting a fresh installation of Chrome 151 or later, the installer will require macOS 13 Ventura or newer to proceed.

Users looking to stay secure should update their operating system if their hardware allows. You can find direct download links for macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma, and macOS Sequoia on iClarified. For those with the latest machines, the current macOS Tahoe is also an option.
