Apple has updated its standalone Sports app today to include golf coverage, bringing real-time scores and statistics for the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, and major championships directly to the iPhone.
The expansion arrives just in time for the WM Phoenix Open this weekend. Fans can now track specific players through every round, viewing hole-by-hole results, individual scorecards, and live leaderboards. This adds a major individual sport to an app that has largely focused on team-based leagues since its debut.
Beyond the fairway, the update adds support for several top European football federation cups. Users can now follow the DFB-Pokal in Germany, the Coupe de France, Italy's Coppa Italia, and the Copa del Rey in Spain.
The timing aligns with a massive weekend for sports, as Super Bowl LX kicks off on Sunday. Apple has been heavily integrating the event across its ecosystem, recently launching a dedicated content campaign for the halftime show.
For those following the game, the app utilizes Live Activities to push real-time updates to the Lock Screen and Apple Watch. Apple enhanced this feature late last year to include dynamic drive charts for football, allowing fans to follow the action play-by-play without unlocking their device.
The app syncs favorites with the My Sports experience found in Apple News and the Apple TV app. It remains free to download and is available in over 40 countries, requiring an iPhone running iOS 17.2 or later.
You can download Apple Sports from the App Store for free.
