Apple to Add Siri Camera Mode With Visual Intelligence in iOS 27 [Report]

Apple is preparing to integrate artificial intelligence more deeply into the iPhone camera with iOS 27, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The update will bring Visual Intelligence directly into the native Camera app as a new Siri mode.



The new option will sit alongside familiar swipeable settings like Photo, Video, and Portrait. Instead of being primarily tied to the Camera Control button and less visible in the interface, the feature will become more prominent within the Camera app. Pressing and holding the Camera Control button will still activate the tool, but that shortcut will now launch the Siri mode directly inside the Camera interface. Apple is also said to be replacing the traditional white capture button with a new shutter button styled after the Apple Intelligence logo.


The experience is expected to remain similar to the current version of Visual Intelligence. Users will be able to point their iPhone at an object or scene to gather information, including identifying plants and animals, pulling up restaurant details, or creating calendar events from posters. The system is expected to continue supporting queries through services like ChatGPT and reverse image searches via Google.

Apple is also adding new capabilities. The camera will be able to scan nutrition labels on food packaging to log dietary data and capture contact information to save directly to the address book. These upgrades are part of a broader push to make visual AI more central to the iPhone experience, especially as Apple works on future devices like AirPods, smart glasses, and a pendant that rely on environmental awareness.

The camera changes are part of a wider set of updates coming with iOS 27. Apple is expected to introduce a standalone Siri app with a more conversational interface, along with a significant overhaul of its photo editing tools powered by generative AI. The company is also focusing on improving system performance, battery life, and overall stability.

Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 and its broader AI strategy at WWDC26 in June, with a public release expected this fall.
