Apple Warns Mac mini, Mac Studio, and MacBook Neo Shortages Could Last for Months

Apple is facing ongoing supply constraints across several Mac models as demand continues to outpace expectations. During the company's fiscal Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Tim Cook said the imbalance will persist in the near term, particularly for Mac mini and Mac Studio, which are seeing strong demand for AI workloads.



Cook pointed specifically to the Mac mini, Mac Studio, and the recently launched MacBook Neo as the primary devices affected. While overall Mac revenue grew 6 percent year over year to $8.4 billion for the March quarter, as detailed in Apple's earnings report, the growth was limited by hardware availability.


The constraints are being driven by the availability of advanced silicon nodes used to manufacture Apple's chips, combined with higher-than-expected demand. Cook said the Mac mini and Mac Studio are seeing strong adoption as platforms for AI and agentic development, with customer interest accelerating faster than Apple anticipated.

The entry-level MacBook Neo is also facing supply pressure. Cook said demand for the $599 laptop has been "off the charts," helping drive a March record for customers new to the Mac platform.

Looking ahead to the June quarter, Cook said the majority of Apple's supply constraints will be concentrated on the Mac lineup. He noted that the Mac mini and Mac Studio "may take several months to reach supply-demand balance," indicating that tight availability for those models will continue in the near term.
