Skype for iPhone Can Now Run in the Background

Posted July 21, 2010 at 3:04pm by iClarified
Skype has updated their iPhone application to run in the background with multitasking in iOS 4.

Call your Skype contacts wherever you may be – either on 3G or WiFi. It's completely free to call people on Skype over WiFi, and free on 3G* until the end of 2010.

Features:
● Great value international calls and text messages
● Call and text phones anywhere in the world directly from your phonebook, and save with Skype's great rates.
● Instant messages
● With Skype for iPhone, you can instant message one or many people on Skype at the same time, wherever, and whenever the mood strikes.

What's New In This Version:
● Run Skype in the background with multitasking in iOS4. Receive Skype calls and IM while other apps are running or when your iPhone is locked. You can also continue your call while you switch to another application. Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

You can download Skype from the App Store for free.

Skype doesn't run in the background in ios4. I used to run jailbroken os 3.1.3 with backgrounder and could get calls, msgs anytime and flick between apps while still maintaining a call. Now with ios4 as soon as the screen closes the app stops working and I have to sign in again to continue. It's a real pain in the arse and ruined the powerful business application of being able to run multiple apps at the same time and practically work from anywhere in the world without having to drag my macbook around with me. If it is possible to run Skype all the time so people can see you online I'd love someone to show/explain it to me. Thanks Greg

I updated skype for my iPhone 4 and push notifications isn't even an option for it (it's not an option in the app or settings) In the app store I read it's description and iPhone 4 isn't even in it's compatibility list! They left us hanging for this update

I've updated too. I'm on an iPhone 3GS 4.0 and it does not seem to work at all. No multitasking. No notifications to be found in the app or general settings. Bad update?
