Apple Drops to Fourth Largest Computer Vendor

Apple Drops to Fourth Largest Computer Vendor

Posted April 28, 2011 at 12:55pm by iClarified
Apple has dropped from third to fourth in Canalys' market share analysis for Q1 2011. The data collected includes tablets and puts Apple behind HP, Acer, and Dell.

During the first quarter of this year, pad shipments reached 6.4 million units worldwide. Apple accounted for 74% of these shipments, while other vendors struggled to bring competitive products to market. Canalys expects that next quarter will see a significant change in the market, with products appearing from Acer, Asus, LG and RIM.

"Taking into consideration the iPad's 'halo effect’' on the company’s other products, Apple has grown considerably in most markets worldwide," said Canalys Analyst Tim Coulling. "As the iPad 2 and its competitors continue to roll out, we expect pad sales to propel PC market growth for the rest of the year."

The analysts preparing this report probably don't consider iPhones & iPads "computers"

What kind of FUD is this? "Drop?" Drop from 2010 Q4 you mean, but you never say it. Also unsaid is that Apple's 2010 Q4 was the best ever, until 2011 Q1. Did you botch the summary or just mindlessly quote macrumors? In any case, the table clearly shows the score: 188% growth for Q1 year-over-year. Come on guys, pay attention.

That's because Acer, Dell, and HP sell $400 laptops worth nothing. Of course their sales are higher. DUH!

You'd think that Apples growth compared to the others from Q1 '10 / Q2 '11 would be the interesting figure in that chart....
