Progress Made on Porting Siri to the iPhone 4 [Video]

Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has made some progress on porting Siri voice assistant to the iPhone 4, reports 9to5Mac.

Siri on the iPhone 4 can recognize spoken commands in both the standard Siri view and the keyboard Dictation view. The only issue at this point is that Apple is not authenticating (obviously) commands to its servers from iPhone 4 hardware. The Siri port to the iPhone 4, at this point, also has the ability to speak back to the user. You may notice Siri and the iPhone 4 acting very sluggish in the above video. The issue here is not Siri, but is that a special GPU driver for iPhone 4 is needed; and it is obviously not included in the iPhone 4S binary cache - where the Siri files are located.

We'll keep you up to date on the progress of this port...

The Siri port to the iPhone 4 is pretty low end right now. I just checked it out and the API behind it and it is basically a dummy terminal with nothing behind it. I would love to say it'll be feasible in the future but the modules behind it is basically non existant.

Siri will be a novelty. How many people raved about it before it was bought by Apple? Faster processor for Apps that don't tax the A4? Why? The only people who will benefit from this new phone is gamers.

Vlingo is better than what it used to be, but nowhere close to Siri. The comparison is ridiculous.

Actually Siri was an AppStore app, but Apple acquired it.

It looks legit ... Old proximity sensor, cydia installed (and I think 4S isn't JB-able, yet) We have hope :D

I recommend using the free Vlingo voice app from the AppStore. It has the same functionality as Siri.

Not quite the same, and much less natural than Siri, but better than nothing! :)

People can't you read? The lagging of the iPhone is caused by a driver problem of the GPU. Its not that Siri is too heavy for the Hardware! Good luck!

Why a so simple voice recognition software lag the iPhone that way? Actually, I am plenty sure that could run in ten years old phones.

Reliable voice recognition that does not require previous training *is* very calculation intensive and thus it's only natural that iPhone 4S comes with dedicated H/W for that, not to mention twice as much CPU power as the previous iPhone 4...
