Google to Counter iPad Mini With $99 Nexus Tablet?

Posted October 17, 2012 at 5:33pm by iClarified
A new Digitimes report claims Google will launch a Nexus tablet for just $99 in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The US$99 Nexus tablet is equipped with an ARM-architecture single-core processor 8950 developed by China-based WonderMedia Technologies, and a HUVA TN panel made by Taiwan-based HannStar Display, the sources said. The tablet will be produced by Taiwan-based Quanta Computer.

However, Quanta declined to comment and Asustek Computer, a Taiwan-based vendor developing Nexus 7 through cooperation with Google, indicated that it has no plans to launch US$99 Nexus.

Google's current Nexus 7 tablet sells for $199.

The Tablet Wars of 2012 -- Another Company, Ainol Electronics -- also just launched some new tablets, including the Novo 7 Flame - priced at $189 at a U.S. site called TabletSprint - a 7" 16GB tablet with more quality features than Nexus 7 including a 1280x800 high resolution screen, Micro-SD, HDMI, 2 quality cameras and more... Next month they launch the "World's 1st" $99 Dual Core "Performance" tablet -- If you're not familar with Ainol Electronics - they won runner-up in CES / CNET's 2012 "Best Tablet of the Year" Award -- And will also have two new Hi-Res 10 Inch tablets coming out soon, one is a Dual Core for $209 and a Quad Core with a 1920x1200 Liquid Crystal display (like Apple's Retina screen) for around $275 --WOW- the only site that seems to offer them right now in the US is TabletSprint --

I use both Apple and Android and I've studied visual marketing for 15 years. With that in hand, I definitely gotta say, yeah, this ad definitely screams "Apple". It's possible they did that for a reason; to subconsciously lure/trick people into thinking they're watching an Apple-based commercial. A lot of brands do this to grab attention while emulating a familiar visual setting. The music is similar to what Apple uses, the environmental settings, the articulation of words and how they emphasize key words while describing products (something Apple is known for). So, it's definitely a possibility that they tried to emulate an Apple-ish commercial to grab attention.. It grabbed mine, and yours! Good eye!
