AirFloat, a tweak from Kristian Trenskow that turns your iOS device into an AirPlay speaker, has been updated with a new design, restructured code, and better synchronization.

Turn your iPhone into an AirPlay audio receiver. Send audio from iTunes, iPhones, iPads or Apple TVs to your iPhone, just as if it was an AirPort Express.

What's New In This Version:
- Total restructure of code for better stability.
- New design.
- Settings panel
- Better audio synchronisation for iOS 5 and above.
- Support panel for donations
- Support for iOS 4.2 (experimental)

You can get AirFloat free from the Big Boss Cydia Repository.

Why isn't this available in the Apple Store?

This may be beyond the scope of this article, but I'll ask anyway: What does AirFloat have beyond the also-free, in-App-Store Airfoil Speakers Touch?  Also, it seems apparent that there's no reason why an app like this would violate the App Store's policies— if AirFloat has minor advantages (e.g. performance), why isn't it also available in the official App Store?

Airfoil doesn't use "Airplay", Airfloat does. To use Airfoil Speakers app you have to install Airfoil in the source. To use Airfloat you can stream from any device that have Airplay.

@some1 While I can't find any validation for your claim that ‘Airfoil doesn't use "Airplay"’ (it seems the explicity purpose of Airfoil is to route audio over AirPlay), I see now that Airfoil Speakers can only receive Airplayed audio from Airfoil running on OS X or Windows, not any given AirPlay-enabled source.  On further digging, it seems the Airfoil incompatibility is not for technical reasons but legal (http://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2012/06/08/in-response-to-mr-schiller/).  That said, I see now the utility of AirFloat on Cydia— it's not restricted by Apple. Thank you for making the distinction of usage between the two.
