Apple Looking to Further Improve Maps With 'Ground Truth' Team

New job postings on Apple's website hint at Apple's continued commitment to improve their much criticized maps application.

The new job posting shows that Apple is looking to increase the size of its dedicated team that verifies and improves mapping data. The posting refers to "ground truth" local experts in a number of different locations around the world and United States

The Maps team is looking for people with a passion for mapping, great testing skills, and deep regional knowledge to help us build better and better maps. In this position, you will be responsible for the quality assessment of Apple Maps for your region, including both data and map services. You will monitor changes to our maps, provide feedback on unique local map requirements, collect ground truth information, and evaluate competing products.

The job posting looks for someone with a bachelor's degree or equivalent and prior experience in quality assurance with a "detailed knowledge of the unique features of your local area, including preferred place names, prominent businesses, public services, seasonal events, driving routes, landmarks, and road names."

Apple's iOS 6 Maps has been criticized by many, and even prompted Tim Cook to write an open letter describing its failure. Just last week Apple acquired HopStop and Locationary in an effort to enhance their current mapping application.

They don't ignore you, in fact Apple Maps its going the way they want, you guys don't see it right? they released last year and they been collecting data and fixing it on the way, using all of us (more than 150 millions users) as their own staff reporting mistakes but without paying us... Google spend almost a decade and lot of money to get where they are with the google Maps... And believe me Apple will get there in less time and expending much less money... Sad but clever...

One of the examples that prove that Cook cant hold a candle to Jobs, Jobs would have never released a software like apple maps if it wasnt perfect.

If they didn't just ignore the corrections us users made in the map app, then maps maybe had a chance to catch up!
