Phantom Fish has announced the release of Byline 2.5, a major update to the news reader and offline web browser for iPhone and iPod Touch. Byline synchronizes with a free Google Reader account and offers instant offline access to articles and complete web pages, including embedded images. New features include progressive syncing with Google Reader, an option to sort items by their source feed, and a refined user interface.

"Progressive syncing allows Byline to start processing the data it receives from Google Reader straight away, before it's finished downloading," said Milo Bird, the developer of Byline. "You'll be able to start reading your items even more quickly than before, and because the data is processed in chunks, the user interface will stay responsive throughout."

Byline 2.5 offers a dedicated button to toggle the new 'sort by feed' mode. For the first time in Byline, items can be sorted and grouped by their source feed, rather than sorted just by date. This feature can be used to follow the thread of a single news source, in addition to the broad categories offered by folders configured using the Google Reader web interface.

The user interface features an attractive new appearance which is designed to let the content to stand out with as few distractions as possible. Long headlines are wrapped over two lines to improve their readability and to make it easier to browse through a large number of unread items.

Pricing and Availability:
Byline is available from the iTunes App Store for $4.99 (USD).
