Leaked Schematic Reveals iPhone 6 Will Only Have 1GB of RAM?

Posted August 18, 2014 at 2:25pm by iClarified
A leaked schematic for the iPhone 6, posted by GeekBar on Weibo, alleged shows that the upcoming smartphone will have 1GB of RAM.

It's unclear if the schematic is for the 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch iPhone 6. One GB of RAM would be less than the 2 GBs in many flagship Android devices and the same amount of RAM as the iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s.

In a world where flagship Android smartphones come with at least 2 GB of RAM, the iPhone 6 doesn’t sound powerful enough to compete with the most sought-after devices from the opposite camp. Nevertheless, Apple is a wizard when it comes to optimization and iOS has always been capable of successfully handling the same tasks as Android, while requiring fewer resources.

Previous reports have said that the iPhone 6 will feature a 2.0 GHz A8 processor, 802.11ac, Category 6 LTE, and more.

Take a look at the schematic below and please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

That would be disappointing if true, but hard to imagine with RAM being relatively cheap why they would not want to keep up with the times.

Theo ly disappointing thing here is finding out how more ram isn't everything like last time, what about how much ghz is out in it compared to the others, putting as much ram in it barely makes the difference so technically more or less, it's ghz that makes anyone keep up.

No matter the ram. Not one android phone stands up to the current IPhone anyways. Lol

Because of the gb of ram staying the same, androids do it because of different manufactors and that's the only way to power the chips, a# chips uses ghz as their power because apple is a different version just like both platforms. The only tit squeezing juice consumer is you. Retina display even for such a small screen is clear, it lives up to it's name compared to ipad and MacBooks which have the highest display compared to an average PC. Retina in general never fails.

It's not like the iPhone needs anymore. Hell the 4s is still a ok phone and it only has 800mhz dual core with 512m. Of ram.

It needs to be more than just an OK phone. Shooting for mediocrity is hardly the way to go for what used to be such an innovative company.

i was talking about the 4s being a ok phone. the 6 will be great it doesn't need more ram ATM with the way apple designed ios

Update 7:19 AM: The schematic's references DDR and NAND suggests that it more likely refers to some aspect of the device's flash memory rather than DRAM included within the A8 chip

It's not java.. Neither iOS nor Windows Phone need as much RAM as Android to achieve similar performance levels.

No need for upgrade as it still have 1GB of RAM. Switching to note 4 is this will be a waterproof phone.

I wouldn't give my hopes up for plastic junk. Every apple device that's new always outpaces androids, that's why I would compare those two, besides I use liquipel to waterproof my iPhone just for $60.

Why do you work in and around water to need a waterproof phone
zetaprime
zetaprime - August 19, 2014 at 2:59am
Accidents happen and sometimes you might happen to be using your phone near water..the Earth is 70% covered with water so it's not such an unlikely event. And there are places even in your home where water is found, like sinks, toilets, etc where phones are known to be accidentally dropped.

zetaprime - August 19, 2014 at 3:03am
But why shoul you pay extra and have to send your phone away somewhere and lose use of it for some unspecified period while it is shipped, worked on, and then returned? Since there are phones that already come waterproofed right out of the box then there's no excuse for any manufacturer to fail to do it.
