Purported iPhone 6 Display Put Under Microscope, Reveals Possible 1472x828 Resolution

Posted August 19, 2014 at 9:43pm by iClarified
Feld & Volk has put a purported iPhone 6 display under a microscope revealing a possible resolution of 1472x828, reports MacRumors.

Past speculation suggested that the next generation iPhone will feature a resolution of 1704x960. Feld & Volk said the resolution of its leaked screen was 1704x960 as well; however, MacRumors analyzed the photo they posted and found that it did not agree with their claim.

The photograph posted by Feld & Volk does not, however, necessarily appear to agree with that claim, as it seems to show roughly 13 pixels per mm in the horizontal and vertical directions, while a 4.7-inch display at 1704 x 960 should be closer to 16 pixels per mm. The current iPhone 5s display is roughly 10.5 pixels per mm.

Notably, the display does line up with a discovery posted by 9to5Mac earlier today. A new resolution was found inside iOS 8's Springboard application which had been added in Xcode 6 beta 5. The resolution is 736x414 in points. When doubled for 'Retina' resolution that would be 1472x828.

This leads to speculation that Apple could use both these resolutions. 1472x828 for its 4.7-inch model and 1704x960 for its 5.5-inch model. This would give both iPhone 6 models a pixel density of 3550360 ppi. It also translates to about 14 pixels per mm, close to what's seen in the photo below.

This better not be it. Looks cheap. Just save the images to your device so you can blow them up and see how bad this is.

That's what retina means when taken seriously no matter the screen size. HD anything for apple products with retina.
