iOS 8.1 Beta Kills the 'Date Trick' Used to Install Emulators and Unapproved Apps

iOS 8.1 Beta Kills the 'Date Trick' Used to Install Emulators and Unapproved Apps

Apple has killed the 'Date Trick' used to install emulators and unapproved applications such as GBA4iOS and Popcorn Time in both the first and second beta of iOS 8.1.

The Date Trick uses an enterprise certificate to let you install an application by turning back the date on your iOS device. Riley Testut, the developer of GBA4iOS, announced the news on Twitter.

Oh cool the date trick to install GBA4iOS doesn’t work on iOS 8.1 awesome thanks Apple.

Notably, Riley also said, "Apple isn't evil, GBA4iOS 2.1 will still be released, and we'll continue to support GBA4iOS as best we can." So, those on older firmware versions still have an update to look forward to.

Although there is the possibility that the final version of iOS 8.1 won't block the Date Trick, it seems highly unlikely that Apple will reverse course.

"Thanks Apple". It's a beta, not he final version, you expected it to work completely for something unfinished? Wow.

I dont think you understand. Its not a glitch or a bug, apple are patching it out. Starting with this beta. It was never meant to work
