Apple iPhone 7 to be as Thin as the iPod Touch?

Posted September 6, 2015 at 10:26pm by iClarified
Apple is planning to make next year's iPhone 7 even thinner, reports KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo. In an investor note obtained by AppleInsider, Kuo predicts the 2016 iPhone will be between 6.0 and 6.5 millimeters thick.

If accurate, that would put the "iPhone 7" in line with Apple's current iPod touch and iPad Air 2, both of which are just 6.1 millimeters thick. In contrast, the current iPhone 6 is 6.9 millimeters thick, and new 7000 series aluminum on the "iPhone 6s" are expected to make that device just over 7 millimeters thick.

Kuo says he believes Apple does want to switch to glass-to-glass, especially if the company goes to a higher resolution; however, the company's drive for thinner devices might delay that a few years.

"Apple and its suppliers have invested heavily in iPhone Force Touch in 2015 and we believe 2016 new models will stick with a similar Force Touch structure as used in 2015," said Kuo.

Apple is set to unveil its next generation 'iPhone 6s' on September 9th at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

Thinner=lighter=more portable=better to hold.

STill not thin enough. They should push for 5.5mm. Common Apple you can do better than that.

How much will they sacrifice to do that? Battery, mute/silence switch, a camera that would stick out twice as much, and anything else that has to be trimmed down to do that. The better technology gets, the better those execution of this you wish to happen to be worth your time.

Bad move should keep it the same thickness but increase battery storage...

These guessing game people do realize that this means eliminating mute and silent switch on the iPhone to, right? If Apple were to do it, think about how many would not upgrade to the 7.

Because thinner is better than being thick as a brick. Think about that.

What I've seen, ever since the iPhone 4, is that if you look at the phone from the side or bottom, whatever you see that is sticking up from the body is the next iPhones size is usually the next thickness of the next design change iPhone. on the 6 you can see the cover glass and the antenna stripe stick out from the actual body. So most likely the iPhone will be as thin as you look at it. Check it out yourself and compare it with your old iPhones
