Foxconn Electronics will be the manufacturing partner for an upcoming tablet PC device from Apple, reports DigiTimes.
According to their market sources, the Apple Tablet will be released in the first quarter of 2010, with initial shipments from Foxconn being in the 300,000-400,000 range.
The device is said to have a 10.6-inch display which could possibly be supplied from Foxconn's subsidiary Innolux Display.
Their sources that the tablet will focus on e-book functionality rather than music. Apple's marketing strategy points to long battery life, quick Internet connectivity, and easy user interface as key features for the device.
Foxconn is the largest manufacturer of electronics and computer components worldwide, and mainly manufactures on contract to other companies. Among other things, Foxconn produces the Mac mini, the iPod and the iPhone for Apple Inc.; Intel-branded motherboards for Intel Corp.; various orders for American computer manufacturers Dell and Hewlett-Packard; the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 for Sony; the Wii for Nintendo;the Xbox 360 for Microsoft, cell phones for Motorola, the Amazon Kindle, and Cisco equipment.
