The Apple employee found dead at the company's headquarters in Cupertino committed suicide, dying of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, according to police. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Edward Thomas Mackowiak of Santa Clara, California, was found dead in a conference room on Wednesday.
"The Medical Examiner determined the manner of death was suicide and the cause was a gunshot to the head," the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said in a written statement.
"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a young and talented coworker," the company said in a statement issued late on Wednesday. "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, including the many people he worked with here at Apple."
There has been no word yet on the circumstances that led Mackowiak to take his own life.

Of course it's sad, but he premeditated this. Most people leave a note and do it somewhere they may not care to be found, but this guy clearly wanted to make a statement.
I agree....but it is also shameful that he let innocent people see his brains all over the conference room. Yes its sad BUT subjecting that image on the janitor and coworkers who found him is unfair to them as well. Those people are not trained to see such a bloody messy scene like EMTs, police, etc etc
How could he obtain, if he is in fact deceased? Perhaps his passion and love for what he did was most important to him and he wanted to pass away in a familiar place? It's unfortunate that he did it in such a public place where his peers would find him. Depression can make you do things you wouldn't normally dream of.
