Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has accused Apple, Amazon, and Google of using their size to 'snuff out competition', reports Re/code.
In a speech about the perils of “consolidation and concentration” throughout the economy Warren accused each company of using their powerful platforms to “lock out smaller guys and newer guys.”
According to the Senator, Google uses “its dominant search engine to harm rivals of its Google Plus user review feature”; Apple “has placed conditions on its rivals that make it difficult for them to offer competitive streaming services” that compete with Apple Music; and Amazon “uses its position as the dominant bookseller to steer consumers to books published by Amazon to the detriment of other publishers.”
“Google, Apple and Amazon have created disruptive technologies that changed the world, and ... they deserve to be highly profitable and successful,” Warren said. “But the opportunity to compete must remain open for new entrants and smaller competitors that want their chance to change the world again.”
Although Apple, Google, and Amazon refused to comment, Spotify had some choice words about Apple.
“Apple has long used its control of iOS to squash competition in music, driving up the prices of its competitors, inappropriately forbidding us from telling our customers about lower prices, and giving itself unfair advantages across its platform through everything from the lock screen to Siri. You know there’s something wrong when Apple makes more off a Spotify subscription than it does off an Apple Music subscription and doesn’t share any of that with the music industry. They want to have their cake and eat everyone else’s too.”
If competition is fully free and open, I wonder if her husband gets the sleep around? Competition is free and open right? Oh, hang you need boundarys......?
Exactly they were for sale in 90"s for 3-4 million. They hired thousands of people and becam a very successful company. The fact they are successful is nothing to be ashamed of just like amazon. That is how business survive. , many can not deal with factz pure jealousy.
Not very long ago, they were no one. They achieved their position through hard work and innovation. New entrants should do the same to prove themselves instead of asking for mercy.
And then their's you supporting the devil who doesn't turn their focus on other companies as well, sure lets not even bring others mentioned Mr. Spamericum!
Agreed that all the tech giants stomp out competition. I don't support Amazon, it's impossible to not use google's technology, and I keep buying apple products because they are quality products. I'm definitely not loyal to any company, but I can definitely recognize quality when I see it. Large amounts of money is a dangerous thing. Amazon bought up most of downtown Seattle and destroyed it by tearing down blocks of old business and building brand new condo high rises for its employees. These tech Giants have too much power!
The reality is businesses make money , and make huge profits . They follow the laws, and if get caught they pay huge fines, and generally accept no responsibility. The reality is many dont like successful company"s ,thats how business survey the strong survive generally. Change the laws , oh wait the deregulated everything , and know there is no central office to accept responsibility.
..and windows is the most widely used os in the world over unix or mac os? you don't have to use google, just bing or ask jeeves, lol. this debate is stupid. Elizabeth Warren needs some technology education before she starts thinking there is a conspiracy theory. the grassy knoll Elizabeth!! the grassy knoll!!
I guss making laws To circumvent the voting public living locations so they are in more favorable districts that will get votes. Why not make a law so there no limits on how many years one can serve congress. ( oh wait they dont want to, so they can be control for ever)
