Apple Removes iPhone Security Tethers From Redesigned London Store

As part of a redesign of its flagship London Regent Street store, Apple has removed security tethers from devices on display, reports CNET. Apple hopes this will give customers a better feel for its devices but it may result in more theft.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of the store is that when it opens to the public at the weekend the devices won't be tethered to the tables as they were previously, and are in other stores around the world. Apple says this is to allow people to hold them properly, try cases on them and even see how they feel in your pocket. It's a bold move, especially given the lack of visible security in the building. We couldn't spot a single CCTV camera, although any phone taken out of the store will set off an alarm. If not returned, the phones will also be rendered unusable.

FREE iPhones!? YAY! Seriously, insert into faraday pocket walk out the door, then remove iCloud via swapped chips or gsx. If you need to unblacklist (not always required) then you can do that too.

I'm sure they altered the software to not allow the phone to turn off. This would allow them to continue tracking it through find my iPhone.

They probably thought this through. Having a non removable sim card or gluing the screen down would make them able to show the phones and track if they're stolen.
