Apple Reassigns Marketing Staff to Bolster iPhone Sales [Report]

Apple has reassigned some of its marketing staff in an effort to bolster sales of its new iPhone XS and iPhone XR, according to Bloomberg. This comes as numerous reports over the past month have suggested that sales are not meeting Apple expectations leading the company to cut production.

Company executives moved some marketing staff from other projects to work on bolstering sales of the latest handsets in October, about a month after the iPhone XS went on sale and in the days around the launch of the iPhone XR, according to a person familiar with the situation. This person described it as a "fire drill," and a possible admission that the devices may have been selling below some expectations. The person asked not to be identified discussing private strategy changes.

In Japan, Apple recently subsidized the price of the iPhone XR to mobile carriers leading to drop in price of about 12000 yen ($106USD) for the lower cost device.

Apple has also introduced new trade-in offers that temporarily increase the amount given to users trading in an older iPhone for a new model. On Sunday, the company posted a banner on the top of its website advertising the new iPhone XR for $449, $300 less than list. An asterisk on the price indicates that customers must trade in an iPhone 7 Plus to get that price.
