Apple Says Slightly Bent iPad Pro is Normal, Not a Defect

Apple has confirmed that iPad Pro customers may notice a slight bend in their tablets but says this is normal and not a defect.

The company tells The Verge that the bend is a side effect of the manufacturing process and shouldn't worsen over time or have a negative effect on the iPad's performance. Apparently, the bend results from a cooling process involving the metal and plastic components of the iPad Pro during manufacturing.

Apple Says Slightly Bent iPad Pro is Normal, Not a Defect

Since the launch of Apple's new iPad Pros, there have been numerous reports and videos demonstrating how easy it is to bend them. However, some users have claimed their iPads were bent out of the box, a story The Verge has confirmed first hand.

I can personally vouch for that: my 11-inch iPad Pro showed a bit of a curve after two weeks. Apple asked if I would send it their way so the engineering team could take a look. But the replacement 11-inch iPad Pro I received at Apple’s Downtown Brooklyn store exhibited a very slight bend in the aluminum as soon as I took off the wrapper.

Apple says that concerns over the iPad Pro's structural rigidity are unfounded and it stands by its product. However, a bent iPad Pro (no matter how slight) does not line up with Apple's typical attention to detail and could potentially cause issues down the road (e.g. touch disease).

Does your new iPad Pro have a slight bend? Let us know if you think this is real problem in the comments!

This has happened with iPhone before, remember bend gate? And now their making iPhone out of stainless steel and stainless steel Apple Watch. They should do the same for iPad. Especially for the PRO!

Apple products used to be known for superior quality and workmanship. They’ve sure fallen a long way in recent years. I think the death of Steve Jobs was the death of Apple as we once knew it. Apple is now run by a bean counter, not a creative mind. I’d sure hate to have to switch to Android in a few more years as it seems Apple is going to fall behind. Not having 5G like everyone else next year could be the end for Apple.

This is just poor craftsmanship and poor research and development. They need to go back to the drawing board, this should be the most embarrassing thing Apple has released aside from that Siri Speaker crap that only plays Apple Music. I’m disappointed and not buying the new iPad at all until a change is made for the better

It should be taken out of the production and sent to the developers table! Common, this is not an Apple quality product.

Why should one spend an extra bulk for a normal BEND instead of a normal straight. Apple will doom itself if it disregards its customers like this. This is what Nokia did.

Hard to understand how someone can bend an iPad, unless they really want to.

Read the article do-do. Apple claims the bend occurs during the cooling process when the metal is cooled and comes in contact with the plastic.

Yeah ok as if it’s the first time people bend ipads just to see if they bend. I read the article believe it or not.
