Apple to Revamp Calculator App for macOS 15 [Rumor]

Apple is planning to revamp the Calculator app for macOS 15, according to a new rumor from AppleInsider.

Sources tell the site that Apple is currently testing a significantly enhanced version of the app, codenamed 'GreyParrot'. The codename is apparently a reference to the African Gray parrot which is known for its intelligence and cognitive abilities.

A key feature of the redesigned app is a history tape, in the form of a sidebar that displays previous calculations. A dedicated button at the top left of the application window could give users the ability to toggle the history tape for basic, scientific, and programmer calculator views.

● History Tape: A new sidebar feature will display an overview of previous calculations, accessible via a button, making it easier for users to track and refer to past calculations across all calculator modes (basic, scientific, programmer).
● Redesigned User Interface: The Calculator will adopt a new look similar to its iOS counterpart, featuring rounded buttons and darker colors, moving away from the squared-off design that has been in use since iOS 7.
● Adjustable Window Size: Users will be able to resize the Calculator window as needed, which will automatically adjust the size and shape of the buttons within the app. This is a change from the current version where window size is fixed based on the calculator view selected.
● Math Notes Integration: The Calculator app will integrate with the macOS Notes app to allow for the creation of notes containing mathematical elements or notations, enhancing its functionality for more complex mathematical tasks.
● Enhanced Unit Conversion: The update plans to integrate unit conversion directly into the main interface, allowing for seamless calculations with automatic conversions. This will support simultaneous mathematical operations and unit conversions, displaying the original and converted results together.
● Online Currency Conversion: The new Calculator will require an internet connection to fetch real-time exchange rates for accurate currency conversions, catering to users who frequently deal with multiple currencies.

Notably, the site has also predicted that an updated Notes app will offer integration with the new Calculator app and Voice Memos.
