Apple's smartphone sales declined by 18.2% year-over-year in China for Q4 2024, according to a new report from Counterpoint. The company ranked third for the quarter, behind Huawei and Xiaomi.
"The country's smartphone market saw a rebound in the first three quarters of the year, with positive YoY growth each quarter," said Associate Director Ethan Qi. "However, momentum began to slow in Q4 as consumers adopted cautious spending behavior."
Senior Research Analyst Mengmeng Zhang noted that this is the first time since the US ban that Huawei has reached the top position. "In Q4 2024, Huawei climbed to the top spot with an 18.1% share. This is the first time since the US ban that Huawei regained the leading position. Huawei's sales increased 15.5% YoY driven by the launch of the mid-end Nova 13 series and high-end Mate 70 series."
Xiaomi secured the second spot with a 17.2% market share, driven by the popularity of its Mi 15 series, which launched in October. The company has been working to enhance its brand image by moving into the premium segment, and its successful electric vehicle venture has further strengthened its position.
Apple followed closely behind Xiaomi with a 17.1% market share in Q4 2024.
Notably, for the full year, China's smartphone sales increased by 1.5% YoY, compared to a 1.4% YoY decline in the previous year. Vivo led the market in 2024 with a 17.8% share, followed by Huawei (16.3%), Xiaomi (15.7%), and Apple (15.5%) in fourth place.
Counterpoint expects China's smartphone market to continue experiencing low single-digit growth in 2025.
