Apple Confirms Siri AI Will Have Daily Usage Limits, Paid Expanded Access Coming

Apple has confirmed that Siri AI and several other features powered by its server-side models will have daily usage limits. Expanded access will eventually be available for a fee, though the company has not said when the limits will begin, what they will be, or how much additional access will cost.



The limits are disclosed in a footnote to Apple's announcement of new health features for Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. A new support article names Siri AI, Image Playground, AFM 3 Cloud and AFM 3 Cloud Pro models in Shortcuts, and photo editing tools such as Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframing. Developer apps that use Apple Foundation Models in Private Cloud Compute are covered as well.


The caps will not necessarily be the same for every feature, with request complexity, system demand, and other factors affecting how they are set. Reaching one will make that feature unavailable for a period of time, after which access will return. Under Apple's separate usage terms, excessive, abusive, automated, fraudulent, illegal, or otherwise unreasonable use may also be restricted, throttled, or suspended.



This is not the first time Apple has mentioned limits for its AI features. At WWDC in June, the company said some server-based features, including image generation, would have daily caps and that most iCloud+ plans would include increased access. The new documentation explicitly includes Siri AI and confirms that expanded access will be available for a fee.

Apple has not explained how the fee will be charged or how expanded access will differ among iCloud+ plans. For Home video summaries, the support article says the 2TB plan will cover up to one camera, the 6TB plan up to two cameras, and the 12TB plan up to five cameras.

Siri AI, the rebuilt assistant introduced at WWDC, is scheduled to launch in beta with iOS 27 on Monday, September 14. It will initially support English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish following in October. The assistant will not launch in China and will initially be unavailable on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch in the EU, although Mac and Apple Vision Pro users there will have access.
