Apple is still planning to release a new Apple TV model later this year, according to a reliable source who spoke with MacRumors. The updated streaming box will reportedly replace the current Apple TV 4K, which will be discontinued.
The updated hardware is expected to get a faster processor and Wi-Fi 7 support. It may also be one of the first devices to feature Apple's custom-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combination chip, reportedly codenamed "Proxima," which is aimed at improving how Apple's smart home devices work together.
The current Apple TV 4K, released back in 2022, is powered by an A15 Bionic chip. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple might also be looking to lower the price on the next-generation model to make it more competitive in a crowded streaming market. The current Apple TV 4K (3rd Generation) (Wi-Fi + Ethernet) retails for $149 but is on sale today for $139.99. The launch is still expected sometime between September and December. The report also notes that a new second-generation HomePod is likely to be released in 2025.
