References found in Apple's internal code reveal a MacBook Pro with built-in 5G cellular connectivity, according to a new report from Macworld. The discovery suggests Apple is actively testing a long-requested feature that would bring its in-house modem technology to the Mac for the first time.
The code reportedly points to an unreleased MacBook Pro powered by an M5 Pro chip, codenamed t6050, which lines up with a previously leaked product roadmap for Apple's Mac updates. More significantly, the device is said to include a "Centuari" chip—the codename for Apple's first in-house 5G modem, also known as the C1, which debuted earlier this year in the iPhone 16e.
While built-in cellular has long been available on the iPad and some Windows laptops, Apple has historically avoided adding it to the Mac, reportedly due to design and battery life considerations. The move to its own custom-designed modem could finally allow the company to deliver a more power-efficient and seamlessly integrated solution.
This isn't the first time we've heard about Apple's plans for a cellular Mac. A previous report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman indicated that such a feature was unlikely to arrive before 2026. The Macworld report also notes its code discovery corroborates another recent find: the existence of a new Mac Pro with an M4 Ultra chip.
While internal testing doesn't guarantee a product will make it to market, this is the strongest evidence yet that a MacBook Pro with cellular connectivity is in active development. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates.
