Another rumor suggests Apple is testing reverse wireless charging for its upcoming iPhone 17 Pro. The report, from leaker Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, claims the feature is under consideration and, if implemented, would be a "major innovative design" for the company. The addition would allow the iPhone to charge other devices, like AirPods or an Apple Watch, by placing them on the back of the phone.
In the post, the leaker notes that while the feature is still in testing, it is considered "reliable." If Apple moves forward with the technology, it would mark the first time an iPhone has included the capability, a feature long available on competing Android flagships.
This potential upgrade would join a list of other significant changes rumored for the iPhone 17 Pro. The device is expected to get a major redesign featuring a wide, horizontal camera bar and a new anti-reflective display. To manage the performance of the anticipated A19 Pro chip, Apple is also reportedly planning to switch back to an aluminum frame to accommodate an advanced vapor chamber cooling system.
While Apple has yet to support reverse wireless charging, it did introduce reverse wired charging with the iPhone 15. This feature lets you charge AirPods, Apple Watch, or another small device that supports USB Power Delivery at up to 4.5 watts.
--- ● If you have another device with a USB-C connector, connect it to your iPhone with a USB-C cable, such as the one included with your iPhone.
● To charge a device that has a Lightning connector, connect it to your iPhone using an Apple USB-C to Lightning cable.
● Charge your Apple Watch by connecting an Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable directly to your iPhone. You can also connect a Magnetic Charging Cable to your iPhone with the Apple USB-C to USB Adapter. ---
