Meta has unveiled the Meta Ray-Ban Display, the company's first smart glasses with a built-in screen. The new AI-powered glasses pair with a wristband that translates subtle hand gestures into commands, offering a new way to interact with technology.
The new glasses feature a full-color, high-resolution display in the right lens. It's designed for short, glanceable interactions like checking messages, previewing photos, seeing translations, or getting help from Meta AI, all without needing to pull out a phone. Meta says the display is placed off to the side so it doesn't obstruct your view and isn't on all the time, distinguishing it from a "phone strapped to your face."
Each pair comes with a Meta Neural Band, an EMG wristband that controls the glasses using subtle finger movements. The band translates muscle signals from the wrist into commands like scrolling or clicking. Meta says the wristband is the product of years of research and is designed to work for nearly anyone right out of the box.
The combination of the display and wristband enables several new features. Meta AI can now show visual answers and step-by-step instructions. Users can privately view texts and multimedia messages from apps like WhatsApp and Messenger, or take live video calls. The display also serves as a real-time viewfinder for the camera and offers phone-free, turn-by-turn walking directions. Other features include live captions for conversations, real-time translation, and on-screen music playback controls.
This launch puts Meta in direct competition with other major players in the emerging AI wearables market. Apple is reportedly accelerating development of its own smart glasses for a potential 2026 release and is said to be developing a dedicated chip for the device. The move follows other recent smart eyewear releases from Meta, including a collaboration with Oakley on performance-focused glasses.
The glasses come in Black and Sand and feature Transitions lenses. They offer up to six hours of battery life, with an additional 30 hours from the portable charging case. The Meta Neural Band comes in three sizes and has up to 18 hours of battery life.
The Meta Ray-Ban Display starts at $799, which includes the Meta Neural Band. It will be available on September 30 at select U.S. retailers, including Best Buy and Ray-Ban Stores. Expansion to Canada, France, Italy, and the UK is planned for early 2026.
