Apple is expanding its Restore Fund initiative with a new investment in a California redwood forest, part of the company's broader effort to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of the decade. The project, a partnership with The Conservation Fund, will focus on the long-term restoration and sustainable management of the Gualala River Forest in Mendocino County.

The Restore Fund, which now includes two dozen conservation and agriculture projects across six continents, is designed to scale investment in nature-based carbon removal. It plays a key role in Apple's plan to be fully carbon neutral across its footprint by 2030. The company is working to cut its global emissions by 75 percent from 2015 levels and will use high-quality carbon credits from these projects to balance the remainder. Key Apple suppliers, including TSMC and Murata, have also invested in the fund.

Under the new partnership, The Conservation Fund will continue to sustainably manage the Gualala River Forest, a large stretch of coastal redwood forestland that is home to hundreds of wildlife species. In return for its investment, Apple will receive the carbon credits generated by the forest's growth over time. The project builds on Apple's previous work with the organization to protect over 36,000 acres of working forests in Maine and North Carolina.
