Samsung Display has publicly demonstrated a new "crease-less" foldable OLED panel at CES 2026, showcasing screen technology that is widely expected to debut on Apple's first foldable iPhone later this year. The component was unveiled at the company's booth in Las Vegas, marking a noticeable step forward in display durability and visual quality.

The company set up a dedicated "Crease Test" zone to compare the new component directly against the screen used on last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7. While older foldables have managed to minimize the seam, they haven't eliminated it. This new version appears to be different. In side-by-side demonstrations, the panel showed no visible line where it folds, delivering what Samsung calls "seamless text" even at angles that usually reveal the hinge imperfection.

According to reports, the durability boost comes from a new laser-drilled metal plate situated under the display. This support layer helps distribute pressure more evenly when the screen bends, which stops the material from puckering or developing a permanent ridge. That engineering solution tracks with previous claims that Apple is pursuing a visually crease-free design using complex lamination and variable thickness glass.

Supply chain sources have consistently pointed to Samsung Display as the primary screen supplier for the iPhone Fold. The readiness of this crease-free panel fits the reported timeline for Apple's device perfectly. Manufacturing partner Foxconn has reportedly already set up dedicated production lines, with mass manufacturing expected to ramp up in late 2026.

While this specific panel is likely to appear first in Samsung's own Galaxy Z Fold 8, the underlying technology is expected to drive Apple's product as well. Recent reports suggest the two companies are converging on similar design philosophies, with Samsung reportedly testing a "Wide Fold" variant to compete with the passport-style form factor Apple has chosen.

Eliminating the crease has been one of the biggest technical hurdles for the product category. Analysts believe Apple's entry will trigger a major surge in foldable shipments, finally pushing the form factor into the mainstream despite an expected price tag of around $2,000.

The demonstration at CES was first spotted by SamMobile.
