Mac users relying on Logitech peripherals ran into a frustrating problem over the past day as their mice and keyboards suddenly lost their custom configurations. The Logi Options+ and G HUB applications, which are necessary for mapping buttons and adjusting scroll behavior, stopped opening entirely for many people, often getting stuck on a loading screen or crashing immediately upon launch.
It turns out this wasn't caused by a buggy software update pushed to the devices. instead, the developer certificate Logitech uses to sign its macOS applications expired. When that happens, macOS no longer trusts the software and blocks it from running to protect the system. Because the certificate expiration also broke the internal update mechanism within the apps, they couldn't patch themselves automatically, leaving users stuck with hardware that reverted to basic, default functionality.
Logitech acknowledged the failure fairly quickly. In a post on Reddit, a representative for the company admitted they "dropped the ball," calling the oversight an "inexcusable mistake."
To get things working again, you have to manually intervene. Logitech has posted a patch installer on its support site that needs to be downloaded and run over the existing installation. The company specifically warns against uninstalling the broken app first. If you just run the patch, your device settings, custom profiles, and button mappings will be preserved. If you uninstall the app before patching, you will likely lose those configurations and have to set everything up from scratch.
The fix is currently available for Macs running the four most recent major operating systems: macOS Tahoe, macOS Sequoia, macOS Sonoma, and macOS Ventura. Logitech says a fix for older versions of macOS is still in the works.
While this issue doesn't affect Windows users, it does impact the offline installer used by enterprise IT departments to deploy Logitech software to Macs. An updated version of that package is being developed. Logitech also clarified that while the expired certificate broke the app, it didn't create any security vulnerabilities on affected machines.
You can find the download link for the patch on the Logitech support website.
