Leaked iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold Dummies Reveal Major Design Changes

Sonny Dickson has shared images of dummy units for the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's first foldable, offering one of the most detailed looks yet at the physical dimensions and design shifts planned for 2026. These metal molds, typically used by accessory makers to finalize cases ahead of launch, provide specific measurements that back up several recent supply chain leaks.

The most immediate takeaway from the Pro models is an increase in overall thickness. Engravings on the dummies show both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max measuring 8.75mm deep. This is a noticeable jump from current models and aligns with reports of larger 5,100mAh to 5,200mAh batteries. While the phones are getting thicker, they aren't getting wider; the display bezels appear identical to the current iPhone 17 lineup to keep the footprint manageable.

On the front of the Pro units, the Dynamic Island appears noticeably smaller. The molds show a more compact pill-shaped cutout, which aligns with reports that the interface will shrink by roughly 35 percent this year. Apple is expected to achieve this by moving several infrared sensors beneath the display panel, though the selfie camera will remain visible since a full under-display Face ID transition isn't expected until at least 2027.

The rear of the Pro dummies shows a camera module that maintains the wider, rounded-rectangular layout seen on recent models. The overall footprint appears similar, but the added thickness of the device could provide additional internal space for upgraded imaging hardware. This likely relates to the mechanical requirements of the variable aperture camera systems Apple is currently sampling, which require more space than traditional fixed-lens designs.

The "iPhone Fold" dummy confirms a book-style form factor with a wide, passport-like aspect ratio. When opened, the device is expected to offer a 7.8-inch internal display, closer to an iPad mini in overall display area. One notable detail is the smooth left edge. Apple has moved all physical inputs to the right rail to avoid running complex wiring across the hinge. This includes the volume keys and a power button that will reportedly house a side-mounted Touch ID sensor. By clearing out the left side, Apple was also able to squeeze in a massive internal battery to power the dual-screen setup.

On the back of the foldable dummy, Apple has swapped the familiar square camera bump for a horizontal bar that stretches across most of the device. This layout likely makes the most sense for the hinge architecture while leaving enough clearance for the optics. This dummy likely represents the hardware currently in trial production at Foxconn. Suppliers are reportedly using a dual-layer glass structure to help hide the display crease on the finalized internal panel.

With the standard iPhone 18 reportedly delayed until 2027, Apple's 2026 launch is focused entirely on these premium devices. These physical models likely reflect near-final hardware as Apple moves toward mass production later this summer.
