xAI has launched an early beta of Grok Build, a new terminal-based coding agent and command-line interface for professional software engineering and complex coding tasks. The tool is currently available exclusively to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers.
Grok Build runs directly from the terminal and includes a dedicated plan mode for more complex projects. Developers can review, comment on, or rewrite individual steps before execution begins. Once a plan is approved, every subsequent code modification is presented as a clean diff for easier review.
To speed up development, the main agent can delegate smaller tasks to specialized subagents running in parallel. The CLI also integrates with Git worktrees, allowing these subagents to operate in isolated environments without interfering with a developer's primary workspace.
The software is designed to fit into existing development setups by automatically recognizing local project conventions. It supports current plugins, hooks, skills, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers out of the box. For Mac developers, this broad compatibility is especially relevant, as Apple recently adopted the open MCP standard to support agentic coding directly inside Xcode 26.3.
Additional functionality includes a headless mode that lets the agent run inside scripts and automations. The CLI also includes ACP support for building custom bots and agent orchestration tools.
xAI says it is using the early beta phase to gather feedback and improve the underlying model. SuperGrok Heavy subscribers can install the CLI with a single command and submit bug reports or feature requests directly through the terminal.
