Apple may initially limit access to some of Siri's new AI features. When iOS 27 arrives later this year, the company is reportedly considering a waitlist for users who want to try its newest artificial intelligence capabilities.
According to Bloomberg, the revamped assistant is currently labeled internally as a "beta" and a "preview." Because the software remains in active development, Apple may use a queue system to manage the rollout of its most advanced capabilities. This strategy mirrors how the company handled the initial debut of Apple Intelligence in 2024, gradually granting users access to new AI features.
Internally codenamed Campo, the rebooted assistant is meant to act as a do-it-all AI companion rather than a simple voice command tool. Apple is finally delivering on several capabilities first promised in 2024, including the ability for Siri to analyze on-screen information, tap into personal data across an Apple account, and navigate deeper inside specific apps. The system is designed to handle much more complex tasks, like evaluating a calendar for overlapping events before scheduling a meeting or drafting an email by pulling context from the web, past messages, and local notes.
Siri's interface is expected to get a significant redesign as well. The new Siri will drop its legacy glowing orb for a dark-toned interface that drops down directly from the Dynamic Island. Swiping down from the top center of the screen reveals a new "Search or Ask" panel. From there, users can access a new Apple-built web search experience that can generate summaries, bulleted results, and rich images directly within Siri.
This interface will also tie into a standalone chatbot app. Much like competing AI platforms, these Siri conversations will sync across devices via iCloud, allowing users to start a chat on an iPhone and pick it up later on a Mac. To give users more privacy control, Apple is adding an auto-delete schedule in Settings that can clear chat histories after 30 days, one year, or never, similar to the existing options for Messages.
Apple is reportedly weaving the assistant deeper into the operating system. A new "Ask Siri" option will appear when highlighting text anywhere in iOS, allowing users to send specific context straight to the AI for analysis. A dedicated "Write with Siri" button is being added to the keyboard as well to assist with text composition.
Google's Gemini technology is being relied on for portions of the new Siri experience, but the interface will also allow users to route certain prompts to third-party AI models like ChatGPT or Claude.
