Apple Opens 'Apple Music Hall' Live Music Venue in London

Apple has opened Apple Music Hall, a 600-capacity live music venue inside Battersea Power Station in London. The space is designed for intimate concerts that can also be recorded, produced, and livestreamed to audiences around the world.

The venue sits beside the River Thames and incorporates heritage brickwork, fluted arches, bronze balconies, and a glass wall overlooking the power station concourse and river. Its 38-foot-wide stage can be arranged for conventional front-facing performances or reconfigured for shows presented in the round.

A 48-speaker spatial sound system surrounds the audience. When an artist performs in a spatial format, the same show can be captured and mixed for release in Spatial Audio.

Recording and Broadcast Production

Two recording and mix studios behind the stage can capture each performance as a multitrack recording and mix it live or afterward. Apple Music Hall is also wired for at least 16 cameras feeding a dedicated broadcast control room, with support for iPhone video capture alongside traditional broadcast cameras.

That setup allows an artist to leave a single show with a finished Spatial Audio recording, a broadcast-ready mix, and multicamera video. Apple says performances from the venue will also be livestreamed globally for viewers outside London.

The opening brings Apple back to a dedicated London concert venue after the company ended its annual Apple Music Festival in 2017. That event began as the iTunes Festival in 2007 and spent most of its run at the Roundhouse.

New Apple Music Radio Studios

Apple Music Radio's London-based hosts and programs will now broadcast live from new studios inside Battersea Power Station. The company says its radio stations will continue to stream around the clock and remain available free worldwide.

The facility includes interview, greenroom, and production spaces for premieres, artist conversations, specials, and performances.
