The European Commission recently joined the FTC investigation into Apple's ban of cross-compilers including Adobe Flash, according to the New York Post.
According to a source, the European Commission recently joined the FTC probe into whether Apple's business practices harm competition. The investigation could last another four to six months, the source said.
Steve Jobs posted an open letter on the situation making his viewpoint on Flash and cross-compilers very clear.
"We know from painful experience that letting a third party layer of software come between the platform and the developer ultimately results in sub-standard apps and hinders the enhancement and progress of the platform. If developers grow dependent on third party development libraries and tools, they can only take advantage of platform enhancements if and when the third party chooses to adopt the new features. We cannot be at the mercy of a third party deciding if and when they will make our enhancements available to our developers."
Wait, are you sure you didn't mean to say this?
"Developers know from painful experience that Apple dictate what apps get approved or not leads to inevitable chaos and greatly hinders the enhancement and progress of the platform. If dependent on the App Store approval policies, developers can only take advantage of platform enhancements at Apple's whim. If the developer, for example, chooses to update an App, it might be rejected without appropriate rationale and communication, leaving users... well, not so happy. Developers SHOULD NOT be at the mercy of the App Store deciding if and when an app/update will be approved."
