Samsung Display shipped about 120 million flexible OLED smartphone panels in the first half of 2026, up 34.5% from roughly 89.2 million a year earlier, according to The Elec, which cited market research firm Sigmaintell.
Strong Apple iPhone sales and advance inventory buildup drove the gains, with the company accounting for roughly 65% of the increase in global flexible OLED smartphone panel shipments during the period.
Globally, flexible OLED smartphone panel shipments rose 15.6% year over year to 350 million units, an increase of about 47.2 million. Samsung Display held a 34.3% share of the market, followed by China's BOE with 81.4 million units and a 23.3% share.
In the overall smartphone panel market, including LCDs, BOE ranked first with 280 million units and a 25.2% share, up 7.1% year over year. Samsung Display shipped 170 million smartphone panels overall, up 0.9%. Meanwhile, global rigid OLED shipments fell 33.3% to 68.6 million units as smartphone makers expanded the use of flexible OLEDs in mid-range devices and repair and replacement demand also shifted toward flexible panels.
By technology, flexible OLED recorded the highest growth rate. Amorphous silicon (a-Si) LCD shipments increased 6.5% to about 680 million units, while LTPS LCD shipments dropped 47% to 25.5 million units.
Sigmaintell expects the flexible OLED market to remain resilient in the second half, supported by Apple's new product launches and strong repair and replacement demand. Samsung Display secured a three-year exclusive deal to supply OLED panels for Apple's first foldable iPhone and began producing OLED modules for the device in June.
