Earlier today, we reported that the iPhone 4S on Sprint would be sold with its microsim slot unlocked. However, that won't be the case according to a Sprint representative.
Ars asked Michelle Mermelstein, a Sprint wireless device public relations representative, to confirm that the Sprint iPhone 4S would not work with international microSIMs. "That is correct," Mermelstein said. "I believe Verizon's device works the same way."
Apple will begin selling the unlocked iPhone 4S starting in November.

Unlocked = any carrier. Jailbreak = Cydia. Two different things.

No carrier will sell the iPhone unlocked this year, apple is the only 1 that would sell it unlocked.

Just ordered an iphone4s on ATT and looked at the skew number or order number off iPhone is the same as the unlocked iPhone 4s apple sends out all unlocked iPhones on preordered phones then if you want want you can change carrier and pay difference to ATT and youget an unlocked 4s
